Laser made in Germany
The development and production of our laser systems and the CEPHEUS laser beam source is located exclusively in Germany.
Our experts have more than two decades of experience in the field of sophisticated laser applications.
Laser processing in mechanical engineering
- Laser processing can be used in a variety of ways in the metal sector. Depending on the application and quality requirements, various laser beam sources in the nanosecond or picosecond range are used. Typically, pulsed laser systems from PHOTON ENERGY can be used to create markings, engravings and annealing colors on metal components very quickly and flexibly. In addition, certain laser beam sources are also suitable for the production of extremely fine drill holes, which do not show any melting due to cold processing and do not require any post-processing.
Industry requirements
- In the field of metal products, the general requirements for marking are high abrasion resistance and good legibility. In the manufacture of high-quality kitchen knives, for example, in addition to the above-mentioned requirements, a high level of precision in the marking and a deep, warm coloration are also important aspects in order to create a particularly elegant overall impression of the tool.
Process requirements
- The process requirements in the metal products sector are as varied as the application. Laser marking using cost-effective pulsed nanosecond laser beam sources is particularly suitable for the flexible production of abrasion-resistant, legible markings. High-quality, deep black markings on steels can be produced particularly well with a USP laser beam source. If a high level of repeatability and precision is also required when creating the marking, camera-assisted systems can be used for the laser process.
Applications
Laser marking of high-quality metal products
Tiefschwarze Permanentmarkierung für die Kennzeichnung von Metallen.
With the CEPHEUS ultrashort pulse laser beam source, very fine, high-precision structures can be created on tool steels thanks to the short pulse duration and high peak pulse power. The resulting deep black marking is independent of the viewing angle and is corrosion-resistant. In addition, this marking is characterized by a long service life without any loss of colour.
Laser Engraving
Permanent component marking
Laser engraving can be used to mark almost all metallic materials. Typically, pulsed nanosecond laser beam sources are used here. By selecting the appropriate laser parameters, the material is selectively ablated, creating an indentation in the component; the depth of the engraving is typically between 50 - 100 µm.
