Blackmarking
Our PERMAblack technology
Markings: Corrosion-free, deep black and independent of the viewing angle.
Home Blackmarking
PERMAblack by PHOTON ENERGY®
Using the CEPHEUS ultrashort pulse laser together with our unique PERMAblack by PHOTON ENERGY® process, we achieve a rich blackening of the surface with very little heat impact on the material. This so-called black marking process creates nanostructural changes on the surface of the metal in which the incident light is absorbed. As a result, the marking is consistently black regardless of the viewing angle and remains stable even when exposed to strong light. This process is suitable for precise marking on numerous metals such as stainless steel or aluminum. In addition, the metal remains corrosion-free despite the marking
Applications
Blackmarking on aluminum
On anodized aluminium, our PERMAblack by PHOTON ENERGY ® marking creates a high-contrast, abrasion-resistant marking without destroying the anodized layer. The properties of the aluminum remain intact, i.e. its corrosion resistance and surface structure. Even under an electron microscope, no change to the surface is visible.
Laser marking of implants
Today, lasers are used for marking in the manufacture of a wide variety of implants such as hip balls or hip sockets. Here too, laser marking stands out in particular.
The marking process with PHOTON ENERGY technology is validated.

Durability of the marking
The deep black PERMAblack by PHOTON ENERGY ® marking remains permanently legible even without post-treatment. This makes the process extremely versatile. Because the marking remains black even after many cleaning processes, it is ideal for medical devices. Here we mark surgical instruments or implants UDI-compliant and with high precision.
Nanostructures
The special nanostructures that are responsible for the outstanding properties of the black marking process with ultrashort pulse lasers can be seen under the scanning electron microscope.
Corrosion resistant
Thanks to the special properties of black marking with our PERMAblack by PHOTON ENERGY marking process, the laser markings are resistant to corrosion. This distinguishes this process from laser marking with the conventional methods used by many competitors.
